Chattooga River

The Chattooga River ( also Chatooga, Chatuga or Chautaga ) is one of the few major rivers in the southeastern U.S., the duration is still original. It has its source in Cashiers, North Carolina, flows along the border of South Carolina and Georgia through the Appalachian Mountains in the south and ends after 92 kilometers in the Lake Tugalo Reservoir, which is also fed by the Tallulah River. Below the Tugaloo Dam, the river is then called Tugaloo River, a source river of the Savannah River.

Since 10 May 1974, the Chattooga River 's status as a National Wild and Scenic River and enjoys special protection. It flows through the Chattahoochee, Nantahala and Sumter National Forest and the rock Ellicott Wilderness.
