Chepelare River

The Chaya (also Asseniza or Chepelarska; Bulgarian Чая, Асеница or Чепеларска ) is a small river in Bulgaria. It rises at an altitude of 1,500 meters in the Rhodope Mountains and flows 86 km away in the Maritsa. The Chaya flows through the city and the villages Asenovgrad Jugowo, Naretschenski bani and Bachkovo. The largest tributary is the Jugowska. It opens at Jugowskoto chan che ( "Gasthaus Jugowo "). This is located between the villages Naretschenski bani, Jugowo and Bachkovo. The river is polluted mainly by factories around the town of Laki in lead and zinc, another problem is the pollution caused by waste. Along the river there are two hydroelectric power stations with a standard capacity of 2,400 kWh.
