Cherry pit spitting

The World Cup in cherry -core spitting is held annually since 1974 on the Duerener Annakirmes. The participants try in a total of six attempts to spit a cherry pit without aids as much as possible along an approximately one meter wide web. Is considered the width of the rolled- cherry core, if it stays on the track.

The idea for this contest had the moderator K.-G. Breuer and former fair director Hans Zens (1925-2010) during the football World Cup in 1974. Since then, the cherry -core spitting is an integral part of Annakirmes and attracts thousands of visitors to the web on the police dog sports field at Rurdammweg. Regional and national media regularly report on the title fights, the first world champion, Heinz Michels from Hurtgenwald - Horm, was a guest on the TV show Zum blauen Bock.

1983 improved the eight -time winner Hans -Peter Iven the world record by more than 3.5 m and 20.59 m for the first time broke through with the 20 -meter mark. The current world record is 21.71 meters, set in 2003 by the seven-time winner Oliver Kuck of upper Hilbersheim near Bingen.

Meanwhile, a junior competition ( to 14 years) and a women's competition will be held. The world record in the women is 15.24m, set up in 2003 by the Swiss Conchita Kohler.
