Chester Barnes

Chester Barnes ( born January 27, 1947 in Greater London) is an English table tennis player who was active in the 1960s and 1970s. He was born in 1966 Vice European Champion in Mixed.

Career

Barnes ' original first name was George. His parents let him rename in Chester after the English comedian Charlie Chester. At age 16, he was English champion for the first time. This was followed by a further 11 titles profits:

  • Single: 1963, 1964, 1965, 1971, 1974
  • Double: 1965-1968 by Ian Harrison, 1971 Trevor Taylor
  • Mixed: 1965 Mary Shannon, 1971 Karenza Mathews -Smith

1966, 1971 and 1973, he finished second in the English ranking number one. In the ITTF World Ranking 1965 he was out in 16th place.

From 1963 to 1969 Chester Barnes was nominated to participate in all four World Championships. He never came near of medal ranks. 1964 and 1966 he was represented at the European Championships. He reached the final, which was lost against the Czech pair Vladimír Miko / Marta Lužová in mixed doubles with Mary Shannon Wright.
