Chester Beatty Library

The Chester Beatty Library (Irish Leabharlann Chester Beatty ) is a museum in Dublin, Ireland.

The collection focuses on ancient and medieval manuscripts, prints, books and art objects of sacred and secular kind, especially from the Middle and Far East. To understand the history of Egypt and of the environment of the Bible and the Koran, the collection provides important source material.

The inventory is based on the extensive private collection of American industrialist Alfred Chester Beatty.

The museum was founded in 1950 and has been housed since February 2000 in Dublin Castle. 2002, the facility was awarded the European Museum of the Year.
