Chevalier de Grimaldi

Antoine Grimaldi, the knight Grimaldi ( born October 2, 1697 in Paris, † November 28, 1784 in Monaco) was Regent of Monaco from 1732 to 1784.

As originally illegitimate son of his father Antoine of Monaco and the dancer Elizabeth Dufort - Babé he was recognized in 1715 by his father.

The "Knights Grimaldi " ( Chevalier de Grimaldi ), as he was called, was appointed on May 20, 1732 to the Governor-General of Monaco after his brother Jacques I and his young nephew Honoré had moved into the Hotel Matignon in Paris and there, even after remained Honoré's proclamation as Prince of Monaco in 1734.

This situation had to death in 1784, Antoine's inventory, as Honoré III. was already 64 years old.

Antoine Grimaldi was known as an able ruler. He succeeded, for example, to avoid participation in the War of Austrian Succession for Monaco.

Antoine remained unmarried, his remains were interred in the apse of the Cathedral of Monaco.
