Children's anime and manga

Kodomo (Japanese子 供, dt "child" ) is used in the West as a genre name for anime and manga.

Kodomo manga and anime aimed specifically at children to the middle school age. Kodomos often work with strong exaggerations and surrealist (and therefore funny and interesting for children acting ) situations, or circumstances that prove the cohesion of a friendship. A well-known example in Germany is the series Hamtaro.

The term is not to be confused with shōjo or Shōnen, aimed at teenagers and older children.
