The Chindwin is an orographic right tributary of the Irrawaddy in Myanmar ( Burma) and has a length of approximately 840 kilometers.

River

The Chindwin has multiple source rivers, including the Tanai, the Tawan and Taron. They spring in northern Myanmar, near the border with India, in the Patkai mountains and in the Kumon Range. The Chindwin only takes a northwest track through the Hukawng valley and then turns south. Near the city Myingyan it flows into the Irrawaddy, the largest river in Myanmar.

Navigability

From the city Homalin around 650 kilometers ships are passable. During the summer monsoon, there are even several kilometers more.
