The Chitina River shortly before it flows into the Copper River

The Chitina River is a 180 km long river in southern Alaska (USA).

It rises near the border with the Yukon Territory in the Wrangell-St Elias National Park from the Chitina Glacier, flowing west-north- westwards and flows near Chitina in the Copper River, which flows into the Gulf of Alaska.

Henry Allen Tureman documented in 1885 " Chittyna " as a designation of Alaska Natives for the river. In 1870, the name " Chechitno " and " Chetchitno " had been recorded.
