The Río Chokeyapu ( often written Choqueyapu ) is a river in the Andes of Bolivia.

Course

The Río Chokeyapu has its origins in the Cordillera Oriental about 35 kilometers north of the city of La Paz on the slopes of the summit Charquini and Wilamanquilisani. Source location of the water body is the Laguna Pampalarama, a mountain lake about 250 m long and 150 m wide, situated at an altitude of 4486 m and is fed by several periodically flowing mountain streams. The Chokeyapu flows through the Chakanta Valley in the south and reaches twenty kilometers at an altitude of 4000 m in the northern outskirts of La Paz

On the way through the city, the little water-bearing river is usually forced into a concreted creek bed and will run underground in the downtown area about four kilometers. At an altitude of 3365 m the Río Chokeyapu meets at kilometer 31 on the influent from left Río Orko Jahuira and another four kilometers later on also flowing from left Río Irpavi, both of which also have a low water flow. After a total of 36 km of Chokeyapu leaves the valley of La Paz in the south. From there, he named the Río de la Paz, breaks through the Cordillera Real and then flows north to the mouth of the Río Beni, which drains through the Madeira River in the Amazon.

Environmental situation

The valley slopes of Chokeyapu are because of mining activity partially unstable and are also eroded because surface waters from the city flow into this ditch.

In the mountains a global architectural competition was organized to develop design options for this central space. It was about one hand existing systems in the environment, such as the Kusillo Museum on the orographic left side of the valley to integrate and enhance the other hand, the entire valley as a park landscape and urban communication space. The concept of Axel and Ursula Lohr -Purity is currently being implemented in sub-projects. Awards were also given to the offices Aidin, Peter Bedner, Mallon, Morandi, Plinston, Valenzuela and Wagner.
