Chris Crutcher

Chris Crutcher ( born July 17, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio) is an American writer and a family therapist.

Life

Crutcher was born on July 17, 1946 in Dayton, son of a fighter pilot of the American Air Force. Shortly thereafter, his father to leave the armed forces and to move with his wife and sons Chris and John to Cascade, Idaho decided.

Sport has been very important in Cascade, and so Crutcher was active early in many sports - including football and basketball.

He studied psychology and sociology at Eastern Washington State College (now Eastern Washington University) and began some time later to teach at schools in Washington and California.

In the early seventies, he took up the post of Director at California 's Lakeside School in Oakland, which he left in 1981 to devote himself to writing and to work as a therapist.

Letter

1983 Crutcher published his debut novel Running Loose, whose plot moves like most of his works between episode youth drama and sports. Crutchers writing is strongly influenced by his experiences as a family therapist and has to consider the claim to be both authentic and the balance between comedy and tragedy.

He was awarded several prizes, including the St. Katharine Drexel Award, the Writers Who Make A Difference Award from the Writer Magazine and the National Intellectual Freedom Award. For great achievements in youth literature, he received the 2000 Margaret A. Edwards Award from the American Library Association.
