The Eastern Washington University ( EWU also called Eastern or ) is a state university in Cheney in the U.S. state of Washington. It operates an additional office in Spokane and is currently attended by 12,130 students. The teams compete in the sports department of the Big Sky Conference.

General

The university was founded in 1882 by Benjamin Pierce Cheney. At the university, however, the institution was only after the end of World War II. In 1977, the university was given its present name by the Government of the State of Washington. Eight years later, the university opened in cooperation with the Washington State University is a school in Spokane, which still exists today. Furthermore, there are faculties of the departments of Arts and Letters, Business and Public Administration, Science, Health and Engineering, and Social & Behavioral Sciences and Social Work. Sports

The sports teams are called the EMU Eastern Washington Eagles. The teams are members of the Big Sky Conference and compete in the competitions of the NCAA Division I. The nation's best known teams are the football team that plays its games at Roos Field and the basketball team, which plays its games at Reese Court.
