Chris Gibson (New York politician)

Christopher P. " Chris " Gibson ( born May 13, 1964 in Rockville Centre, Nassau County, New York) is an American politician. Since 2011 he represents the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Chris Gibson visited the Ichabod Crane High School in Kinderhook and thereafter until 1986, the Siena College in Loudonville. Between 1981 and 1986 he was a member of the National Guard of his state from 1986 to 2010 he was an officer in the United States Army, where he rose to the colonel. During his military service he studied until 1998 at Cornell University in Ithaca. As a soldier he was used among other things in Iraq and Kosovo. He has received numerous military awards, including the Bronze Star four times and twice the Order of Legion of Merit. Finally, he joined the faculty of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he taught American politics. He was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 2010, Gibson was in the 20th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of him previously defeated Democrat Scott Murphy on January 3, 2011. In 2012 he was re-elected in the 19th district of his state with 53:47 percent of the vote against Julian Schreibman. He is a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Armed Services Committee and four subcommittees. Within the party he belongs to both the conservative Republican Study Committee as well as the moderate Republican Main Street Partnership.

Gibson is married and has three children.
