Nassau County (New York)

The Nassau County is a county located in the state of New York in the United States. In the census in 2010, the County had 1,339,532 inhabitants and a population density of 1805.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mineola. The Nassau County is located on the island of Long Iceland and was formed in 1898 from the eastern part of Queens County, because the residents voted against the annexation to New York City.

Geography

The county has an area of 1,173 square kilometers, of which 431 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered to the west by the New York City borough of Queens, and on the east by Suffolk County. Together with the Suffolk County it is called not entirely correct as Long Iceland by the inhabitants - though also based in distinction to the island, but to New York City belonging neighborhoods of Queens and Brooklyn. The County is densely populated and cultivated almost continuously. It is among the highest income, and the safest counties in the United States.
