Monroe County (New York)

Monroe County is a county located in the state of New York in the United States. In the census in 2010, the County had 744 344 inhabitants and a population density of 436 inhabitants per square kilometer of land. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rochester.

History

The County was formed on February 23, 1821 from Genesee County and Ontario County. It was named after James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​3,537 square kilometers, of which 1,829 square miles are water. The northern half of Monroe County is occupied by Lake Ontario and adjacent to Canada.
