Erie County (New York)

Erie County is a county located in the state of New York in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 950 265 inhabitants and a population density of 351 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Buffalo.

History

The county was formed on April 2, 1821 and named for the Erie Indians.

Geography

The county has an area of 3,178 square kilometers, of which 473 square kilometers are water surface. Erie County is bordered on the west by Lake Erie.
