Essex County (New York)

Essex County is a county located in the state of New York in the United States. In the census in 2010, the County had 39 370 inhabitants and a population density of 8.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Elizabethtown.

History

The county was formed on March 1, 1799 in Clinton County and named after Essex, England.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​4,964 square kilometers, of which 310 square kilometers are water surface. Essex County is bordered on the east by Lake Champlain, which forms the border between Vermont and New York.
