Madison County (New York)

Madison County is a county located in the state of New York in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 69 441 inhabitants and a population density of 41 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wampsville.

History

The county was formed on March 21, 1806 from Chenango County. It was named after James Madison, the fourth President of the United States.

Geography

The county has an area of 1,713 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface.
