Christian Ehler
Jan Christian Ehler ( born August 17, 1963 in Munich) is a German politician ( CDU). Since 2004 he is member of the European Parliament.
Education and work
After graduation in 1984 at the State Landschulheim Marquartstein Ehler completed in 1986 to study journalism, political science and economics at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University Munich (LMU ) and the American University Washington, DC. Was in the period 1990-1991 he Executive Assistant ddp / ADN. After training at the German School of Journalism in Munich in 1993 his doctorate. pol. at the University of Munich with the thesis " The U.S. trade policy in the Reagan years - the reactive patterns of interaction between the President and Congress ."
From 1992 to 1997 Ehler was for the Aigner group of companies, most recently as Managing Director, works. From 1998 to 2000 he was managing director of the project company web testing and Technology Center Berlin / Brandenburg GmbH. From 2000 to 2010 he was managing director of the co: bios Technology Centre ( formerly Biotech - Biotechnology Centre Hennig village). In 2006, he was the initiator and founding member of the German European Security Association, which he chaired until mid-2013.
Christian Ehler is married and has three children.
Party
Since December 2001, he joined the CDU district executive Upper Havel and since May 2003, the CDU state Board of Brandenburg. From November 2000 to October 2010 was Ehler state chairman of the SME and Business Association (MIT) of the CDU Brandenburg. From October 2003 to November 2007, he was also deputy national chairman of the MIT. As the state treasurer of the CDU Brandenburg he serves on the Executive Committee of the National Council.
Member of Parliament
From 1999 to 2004 he was a member of the Landtag of Brandenburg. Here he was economic and technology policy spokesman of the CDU.
Ehler since 2004 Member of the European Parliament and belonged from 2007 to 2012 the board of the EPP Group. From 2003-2007 he was a board member of the SME Union Brussels. He was one of the deputy chairmen of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the European Parliament ( 2006-2012 ).
Since the 2009 European election (7th legislature ) Ehler is Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the United States. Ehler is a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairmen. He is a regular member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence. Since 2010, Ehler is chairman of the bipartisan committee preparing for the Research Framework Programme. Ehler is one of two rapporteurs for the new research framework program " Horizon 2020 ", where it is the largest research and innovation program in the world.
As Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the United States in the European Parliament Ehler is at the same time together with Mario Diaz- Balart (Member of the U.S. House of Representatives ) Chairman of the Transatlantic Legislators ' Dialogue ( TLD German: Transatlantic Legislators' Dialogue ). In addition, Ehler, together with the Chairman of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok (CDU ) as co -chair of the Steering Committee TLD (TLD Steering Committee ). In collaboration with the Delegation for relations with the United States, the U.S. Congress and the Conference of Committee Chairmen in the European Parliament, the Steering Committee coordinates the transatlantic contacts.
The inter-parliamentary relationship between the EU and the U.S. can be traced back to the year 1972 and deals with various topics in the areas of foreign and trade policy, economic and financial policy, energy and climate protection and civil liberties. Delegations of Congress and the European parliament meet several times a year and have regular telephone conferences on current issues ( among other things at the moment on the negotiations for an EU -US Free Trade Agreement).
