Christian Geist

Christian Geist (c. 1650 in Güstrow † September 27, 1711 in Copenhagen ) was a German organist and composer of the North German organ school.

Life and work

His first music lessons from his father probably got spirit Joachim, who was cantor. His first job was mind at the court of Duke Gustav Adolf of Mecklenburg in Güstrow. 1669 was the spirit with the help of a recommendation of the Duke bassist at the Danish Court Chapel. In June 1670 he took a position as organist in Stockholm, which he held until 1679. He then went as organist at the German Church in Gothenburg. Finally, in 1684 he moved to Copenhagen, where he worked as an organist at the Holy Spirit and some time at the Holy Trinity Church, until he, together with his third wife and his children in 1711, a victim of the plague.

By Christian spirit two secular and several sacred music, as well as three organ chorales have survived.
