Christian II, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken-Birkenfeld

Christian II of Palatinate -Zweibrücken - Birkenfeld ( born June 22, 1637 Bischweiler, † April 26, 1717 in Birkenfeld ) was from 1671, Count Palatine and Duke of Palatinate -Zweibrücken - Birkenfeld. Life

Christian was a son of the Count Palatine Christian I of Zweibrücken- Birkenfeld - Bischweiler from his marriage to Magdalena Katharina (1606-1648), daughter of the Count Palatine and Duke John II of Zweibrücken. His brother was Johann Karl von Birkenfeld - Gelnhausen, the founder of the line of the Dukes of Bavaria, which he joined in 1681 and 1683, separate contracts over the Deputat Gelnhausen.

Christian and his younger brother Philipp Jacob Spener were trained by and studied at the University of Strasbourg later. Then the brothers took a 5-year Grand Tour, which led, among others, to France, Holland, England, Sweden and Switzerland.

Christian II took over as colonel of a regiment, and the Protestant Regiment of Foot of the Swabian circle Empire on August 1, 1664 the Battle of Mogersdorf part. At times, Christian led the guardianship in the county of Hanau and administered the Duchy of Zweibrücken. His grave is located in the former German monastery church in Meis home.

Marriage and issue

1667 married Christian II in Rappoltsweiler Katharina Agathe ( 1648-1683 ), daughter of Count Johann Jakob von Rappoltstein († 1673 ). From their marriage six children were born:
