Christian III, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken

Christian III. of Palatinate -Zweibrücken (* November 7, 1674 in Strasbourg, † February 3, 1735 in Zweibrücken) was Count Palatine of Birkenfeld, Bischweiler and Rappoltstein and 1731, after the death of his cousin Gustav Samuel Leopold 's ruling Palatinate -Zweibrücken line Kleeburg extinct, Duke of Zweibrücken.

Life

Christian was the eldest son of the Count Palatine and Duke Christian II of Zweibrücken- Birkenfeld (1637-1717) from his marriage to Katharina Agathe (1648-1683), daughter of Count Johann Jakob von Rappoltstein.

He began his career in the French military and 1697 Alsatian regiment. In 1702 he became the Maréchal de camp and in 1704 promoted to lieutenant general. Militarily, he was able to excel in the Battle of Oudenaarde. After the death of his father in 1717 he left the army.

In a closed in Mannheim on December 24, 1733 compared to Elector Karl Philipp of the Palatinate Christian received the principality of Zweibrücken.

His grave is located in the Alexander Church in Zweibrücken.

Marriage and issue

Christian III. married on September 21, 1719 at Castle Lorentzen Caroline ( 1704-1774 ), daughter of Count Ludwig von Nassau- Saarbrücken force, with whom he had the following children:
