Christian Scott

Christian Scott ( born March 31, 1983 in New Orleans, Louisiana ) is an American jazz musician ( trumpet player, composer and band leader ).

Career

His primary musical education received Scott on New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. At the age of twelve he received his first " horn " gift. Even as a 16 -year-old was allowed to Scott in the volume of his famous uncle, alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, play along. Two years later he accompanied Harrison on his album " Real Life Stories" ( 2002). Scott completed his studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in half the normal time .. With the best-of- band of the school, the Berklee Monterey Quartet, he had his first appearance at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California in 2004. Upon completion of the college, he chose as his adopted home once New York City.

His first album as a leader put Scott 2006. Nine of the eleven pieces of Rewind That are original compositions Scotts. In response brought Scott Prince to record with him some sets for his next studio album. The hip- hop musician Mos Def and Randy Jackson picked him as guest musicians in their live gigs. From Steven Soderbergh, he was asked to play a small role opposite George Clooney and Renee Zellweger in his next film Leatherheads. As his main influence Scott Miles Davis indicates, especially its consequent decision to allow only the quintessence of his musical ideas.

His second solo album, Anthem Scott devoted his devastated by Hurricane Katrina hometown of New Orleans. The composition Title Litany Against Fear hot, Antediluvian Adaptian ( Before the Flood ) or The Uprising. In Katrina 's Eyes clench subdued yet intense sounds full of grief. The band lineup is young, the eldest counted 26 years. Marcus Gilmore, the grandson of the famous rock -oriented jazz drummer Roy Haynes, took over from Thomas Pridgen the drum job. At the Piano Scott Aaron Parks moved for Zaccai Curtis one. Next there as did Rewind are guitarist Matt Stevens, Walter Smith III on tenor saxophone and bass player Luques Curtis. For Anthem addition of alto saxophonist Louis Fouché and bassist Esperanza Spalding came about. Guests sat the rapper Brother J on the bonus track Postdiluvial adaptation accents. Scott opens his music for contemporary fusion elements from styles of music which he hears himself and appreciates.

His third CD Live at Newport is a live recording from the Newport Jazz Festival 2008. It is a reference to the concert by Miles Davis, which took place 50 years earlier in the same place. Scott was in February 2009 on his European tour of performances at the German language area.

The CD Yesterday You Said Tomorrow by 2010 pays homage to the form and content specifically Scott's models from the 1960s. He calls this the John Coltrane Quartet, Miles Davis ' second quintet, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Charles Mingus. The album was produced at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder's studio.

In 2010 he received the Paul Acket Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
