Christiane Henriette, Countess Palatine of Zweibrücken

Christiane Henriette von Pfalz -Zweibrücken - Birkenfeld ( born November 16, 1725 in Rappoltsweiler, † February 11, 1816 in Arolsen ) was a Countess Palatine of Zweibrücken- Birkenfeld and by marriage Princess of Waldeck and Pyrmont.

Life

Christiane Henriette was a daughter of the Count Palatine and Duke Christian III. of Zweibrücken (1674-1735) from his marriage to Caroline (1704-1774), daughter of Count Ludwig von Nassau- Saarbrücken force. Christiane Henriette was a sister of the Duke of Zweibrücken Christian IV, the Great Countess and Field Marshal Friedrich Michael. She was also an aunt of the first Bavarian king Maximilian I.

They married on August 19, 1741 in Zweibrücken Prince Karl of Waldeck and Pyrmont ( 1704-1763 ). After the death of her husband she practiced from 1764 to 1766 in the principality for her firstborn son of the guardianship. For the Princess 's New Castle Arolsen was built as a widow seat in the years 1764-1778 by Franz Friedrich Roth Weil.

Christiane Henriette was considered art direction and scientifically highly educated. She was a close friend of the anthropologist Johann Friedrich Blumenbach. Christiane put on an extensive library, which included about 6,000 volumes in 1788 and entertained at her residence Arolsen an art and natural history cabinet.

As Christiane Henriette died at the age of 90 she left considerable debts, which is why parts of their library and art collection in 1820 had to be auctioned, and was buried in the tree park of the New Palace in Arolsen.
