Christianity in Morocco

Christianity is a religious minority in Morocco. A maximum of one percent of the population are Christians.

Current Situation

Islam is the state religion in Morocco according to the constitution. Expatriate Christians allowed to practice their faith, but are observed by the authorities. The passing of the Christian message to Muslims is punishable. So it is also not allowed to distribute Christian literature. Although the conversion of a Muslim to another religion is not punishable by law, but Christians experience from Muslim social pressure and social isolation. For fear of reprisal they practice their Christian faith often in secret.

In March 2010, the Moroccan government has begun to have evangelized many foreign Christians on charges Moroccans to refer the country. The persons concerned were employees of Christian aid organizations. A greater number of them worked in an orphanage project near Fez. They had to leave their foster children.

Confessions

For the Roman Catholic Church include 39 parishes with about 24,000 members in the archdioceses Rabat and Tangier. Also represented are the Russian Orthodox Church with a church and Protestant Christians.
