Christianssands Bryggeri

Christian Sands Bryggeri (CB) is a Norwegian brewery based in Kristiansand. Together with the Hansa bryggeri in Bergen and the Borg bryggeri in Sarpsborg, it forms the Hansa Borg Bryggerier ASA, which is the second largest brewery group in Norway Carlsberg (with the brand Ringnes ).

CB was founded in 1865 by Consul Ole Jacob Mørch. In 1895 he had the brewery, sell together with the remnants of his other companies due to bad times after the Crimean War. The brewery was sold to Consul Jørgen Christiansen, who continued production in the autumn of 1895 again. Kristiansand at that time had about 11,000 inhabitants, so that the brewery has become a highly successful business.

The Christiansen family led the company in five generations to 1964. Thereafter, the shares were sold to the Tou Bryggeri in Stavanger. Since then, the CB had several owners: the investor group Sørlandvekst, the Swedish brewery Spendrups and, since 1999, the Hansa Borg Bryggerier ASA.

All CB Products are brewed with water from the source of Kristian IV. This source was in 1932, during an exceptionally dry summer, found by alleged employees of the company had been encircled with dowsing rods. In 32 feet of water were found crystal clear and 100 % pure water, which maintains a stable temperature of 7 degrees Celsius in summer and in winter.
