Christine Tobin

Christine Tobin ( born January 7, 1963 in Dublin ) is an Irish living in the UK jazz singer and Ropes and Club Manager.

Life

Christine Tobin grew up in Ireland and has lived in London since 1987. There she has established itself as a diverse singer with a repertoire that takes up influences of Billie Holiday and Betty Carter to Cassandra Wilson and Joni Mitchell.

After her studies at the Guildhall School of Music, Christine Tobin was first a member of the formation Lammas, which was led by saxophonist Tim Garland and the guitarist and lyricist Don Paterson. In parallel, she formed a band with pianist Huw Warren, bassist Steve Watts and drummer Roy Dodds; with her she took up the first of her six albums for the label Babel. At other albums musicians such as Billy Hart, Peter Herbert and Mark Turner were involved. She also appeared with Christine Tobin's Big Deal, with pianist Hans Koller and with the BBC Big Band conducted by Michael Gibbs. In 2009 she enterprising duo with pianist Liam Noble a reinterpretation of the classic Carole King album Tapestry ( Tapestry Unraveled ).

In addition, Tobin 2005 worked as Promoterin, organized a club in the Progress Bar in London's Tufnell Park and led the Vortex Jazz Club in Dalston.

Honors

  • Tobin was nominated in 2004 and 2005 as the best singer for the BBC Jazz Awards, 2008 she was the winner of the BBC Jazz Award for Best Vocalist.
