Christoph Wulf

Christoph Wulf (* August 4, 1944 in Berlin ) is a German educationalist and Professor of Anthropology and Education at the University of Berlin.

Life

Wulf spent his childhood in a rectory in Berlin- Britz. After leaving school at the Gymnasium Steglitz he first completed a study of history, education, philosophy and literature at the Free University of Berlin, where he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1968. In 1969 he went with a grant from the Volkswagen Foundation to Marburg to graduate with Wolfgang Klafki. After a tour of the USA as a guest of the U.S. Department of Education, he spent a year doing research for his dissertation at the University of Stanford, Los Angeles, Boulder and New York. In the years 1970 to 1975 he was a research associate at the German Institute for International Educational Research in Frankfurt. 1973 PhD at the University of Marburg Dr. phil. ; In 1975 he habilitated there in the subject of Education. In 1975, he was Professor of Education at the University of Siegen. Since 1980 he is professor of anthropology and education at the Faculty of Education and Psychology at the Free University of Berlin.

Been visiting professor Wulf, among others at the Université de Paris ( Nanterre, St. Denis, Denis Diderot ), the Fondazione San Carlo in Modena, the European Peace University, the University of Amsterdam, the Stockholms universitet, University of London, the University of Tokyo, and the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, as well as in Kyoto, Beijing and Kazan; Research at Stanford University.

Work

Wulf is working on questions of anthropology, in particular the Pedagogical Anthropology. Work focuses on the field of mimesis and imagination research, performativity, gestures and ritual studies as well as the aesthetic and intercultural education. Here he is concerned with the knowledge of the people in a globalized world characterized by cultural diversity. The goal of his research is to make use of historical and ethnographic methods, and philosophical reflection to contribute to the self- understanding of the people in today's time.
