Christophe Coin

Christophe Coin ( born January 26, 1958 in Caen ) is a French cellist, viol player and conductor.

Life and work

Christophe Coin began his training in Caen at Jacques Ripoche. He studied with André Navarra at the Paris Conservatory in 1974 and received the diploma ( 1er Prix) in the violoncello. From 1976, he studied with a scholarship among others, Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Vienna and complemented his education on the viola da gamba with Jordi Savall in Basel.

Initially, he appeared primarily as a soloist in appearance, founded in 1984, the ensemble Mosaïques and 1987, the same quartet with Erich Höbarth, Andrea Bischof and Anita Mitterer, with whom he mainly plays music of Viennese Classicism. Since 1991 he has directed the Ensemble Baroque de Limoges, with whom he worked and oratorio and opera productions.

Christophe Coin teaches baroque cello and viola da gamba at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. Complementary to the historical performance practice he regularly organizes international conferences on the construction and playing techniques of historical instruments and gaining insights that he can incorporate into his music making.

Christophe Coin made ​​with various bands and as a soloist so far about 50 CD recordings, several of which have won prestigious awards of Schallplattenkritik.
