Christophe Neff

Christophe Neff ( born June 10, 1964 in Tübingen ) is a German - French geographer specializing in landscape and fire ecology.

Life

Neff is one of three children of a politician Evelyne Marie France Neff. He spent his childhood and youth in Schramberg in the Black Forest. After graduation and military service, he began a geography degree at the University of Mannheim. Neff graduated in geography and biogeography at the University of Mannheim and the Université Paul Valery in Montpellier in 1993 with a thesis on forest fire risk in southern France. He received his doctorate at the University of Mannheim with Peter Frankenberg, with a thesis on the modeling of vegetation and fire dynamics in the Mediterranean in 1999. He subsequently did research as a postdoctoral fellow ( still at the University of Mannheim) on the relationship between vegetation, landscaping, fire dynamics and climate change in the Mediterranean.

Since autumn 2006, Neff has worked at the Institute of Geography and Geoecology, University of Karlsruhe, where he is responsible for the research landscape and ecological fire. Due to the media attention on forest fires in the Mediterranean and the relationships with global climate change Neff stepped on several occasions as an expert in radio and television broadcasts; He also published his topic in popular science publications and gave interviews in international newspapers.

Neff lives in Green City and the southern Leucate.
