Peter Frankenberg

Peter Frankenberg ( born June 29, 1947 in Honnef ) is a German scientist and politician ( CDU). He was rector of the University of Mannheim and from 2001 to 2011 Minister of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden -Württemberg.

Life and career

He graduated in 1967 in Bad Honnef the Abitur. He then studied at the University of Bonn from 1968 to 1972 history, geography and geology, and then to 1976 Botany. He received his doctorate and was then a research assistant at the Institute of Geography, University of Bonn.

He habilitated in 1982 at the University of Bonn. He then taught at the University of Eichstätt, in 1986 at the University of Mannheim. Awareness outside of academic geography reached a 1988 proposed by Wilhelm Lauer and Frankenberg new climate classification.

Frankenberg was next from October 1994 to 2001 Rector of the University of Mannheim and engaged as such in various university committees on issues of higher education development. He was a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Higher Education Development and Commissioner of the State of Baden- Württemberg for the international Andrássy University Budapest.

In addition, he was active as Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of the Association " future metropolitan region Rhein- Neckar " and the supervisory board of gypsum schoolboys Foundation. In 2011 he became chairman of the Heinrich- Vetter Foundation and the Museum Association of Industrial Technology.

Frankenberg is married and has three children.

Policy

Peter Frankenberg is a member of the CDU. From 2005 to 2007 he was Chairman of the District Association Mannheim.

From 2001 to 2011 Frankenberg served as Minister of Science, Research and Art, a member of the state government of Baden- Württemberg. He belonged to the cabinets devil IV, I Oettinger Oettinger II and undersecretary. In his time tuition fees were introduced, the University of Karlsruhe ( TH) merged with the Helmholtz Research Centre for Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the vocational colleges in the country were transferred to the Duale Hochschule Baden- Württemberg.
