Christophe Staewen

Christoph Staewen (* July 24, 1926, † 2002) was a German doctor of internal medicine, psychiatry, neurology, psychotherapy, and a writer.

Life

Christoph Staewen was the son of Werner and Gertrude Staewen Staewen, born Ordemann ( 1894-1987 ). His mother was the sister of Hilda Heinemann and thus sister of Gustav Heinemann.

After naval service and captivity Staewen studied in Freiburg and Mainz, medicine and received his doctorate in 1951 in Mainz. In the years 1952 and 1953, Staewen engaged temporarily in politics. He ran for the total German People's Party (GVP ) in the general election in 1953. Unlike his fellow Erhard Eppler his term he returned to the failure of the GVP of the policy back and went back to his profession as a doctor. Staewen worked in subsequent years as a specialist in psychiatry. With his boss Hans Ruffin he was, inter alia, worked as a consultant in Pommerenke process.

In 1964 Staewen undertook with Friderun Schoenberg a study trip to the Tibesti Mountains in Chad. In the following years he worked as a general practitioner in Niger, Congo and Chad. On behalf of the Development Assistance Ministry and the Minister Erhard Eppler Staewen should build the early 70s in the Tibesti Mountains in the city Bardai an infirmary. In 1974 he was taken there, together with the French archeologist Françoise Claustre and the French aid worker Marc Combe hostage. Back then attacked a US-led Hissène Habré rebel group to the city Bardai, a small town of 1500 inhabitants in the north- west of Chad. In this action, which attracted international attention, several people were killed, including also Staewens 's then wife Elfriede.
