Christopher Durang

Christopher Durang ( born January 2, 1949 in Montclair, New Jersey) is an American playwright and actor. The author had his greatest successes in the 1980s.

After Durang had attended a Catholic school, he moved to Harvard College and later at the Yale School of Drama.

Durang works in which he focuses mainly child abuse, the dogmas and teachings of the Catholic Church and homosexuality, are especially popular with theater students and supporters of alternative political theater. Some of his plays were also staged on Broadway.

In addition to plays, Durang has also written screenplays, so pointless eg for therapy directed by Robert Altman. He is even known as an actor, for example, on the side of Sigourney Weaver in one of his pieces.

For his work, and his works Durang has experienced several awards and honors. He received two Obie Awards and was nominated for the " Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical ." He is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and at the Juilliard School with responsibility for the Playwriting Program.

Prizes and awards

  • In 2006 he was nominated for Miss Witherspoon for the Pulitzer Prize.
  • 2013: Tony Award for best new play voice for: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.
