Christopher Morgan

Christopher Morgan ( born June 4, 1808 in Aurora, New York, † April 3, 1877 in Auburn, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1839 and 1843 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressman Edwin B. Morgan was his brother and the congressman Noyes Barber his uncle.

Career

Christopher Morgan was born about four years before the outbreak of the British - American War in Cayuga County. He pursued classical studies and then graduated in 1830 at Yale College. Morgan studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice in Aurora. Politically he belonged to the Whig party. In the congressional elections of 1838, for the 26th Congress Morgan was in the 24th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William H. Noble on March 4, 1839. He was re-elected once. In 1842 he suffered in his re-election bid a defeat and then retired after the March 3, 1843 from the Congress of. After his conference time he moved to Auburn in 1843, where he pursued his activities as a lawyer again. Between 1847 and 1851 he was Secretary of State of New York. Then he served as a trustee at the state insane asylum in Utica. He died on April 3, 1877 in Auburn. His body was buried at Fort Hill Cemetery.
