Christoval is a city in Tom Green County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The place is halfway between San Antonio and Lubbock in the southwest of the county on the South Concho River, west of the geographical center of Texas and has a total area of 3.1 km ² without significant water surface.

History

Was named the city after Christopher Columbus Doty, an early settler in the area. In 1889 the first post office was established in 1901 and opened the first public school.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 422 people in 167 households and 124 families. The population density was 134.7 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 92.18 % White, 0.47 % African American, 1.18 % Native American, 0.00 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 5.21 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 0.95% were Mixed Race and 14.45 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 167 households 38.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 51.5 % were married couples living together. 19.8% were single mothers and 25.7 % were non-families. 22.2 % of all households were single-person households and 7.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size amounted to 2.96.

30.6 % of the population were under 18 years old, 5.5 % from 18 to 24, 25.1% 25-44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.5 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 86.6 males.

The median income for a household was $ 26,750, and the median income for a family $ 32,292. Males have a median income of $ 28,750 versus $ 24,688 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,257. 18.3 % of the population and 12.6 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 25.4 % have children under the age of 18 and 10.2% of those 65 or older.
