Chromyl is an inorganic chemical compound of the chromium from the group of fluorides.

Production and representation

Chromyl (VI) can be obtained oxide with sulfur tetrafluoride or hydrogen fluoride by reaction of chromyl fluoride at 200 ° C or the reaction of chromium.

Properties

Chromyl is a solid exist of the two modifications. The red-brown to black- red form is unstable (especially for light, UV radiation and heat) and can only be preserved by keeping the freshly condensed product to the exclusion of light by means of liquid air at about -190 ° C. The second polymeric modifier is off-white, stable and will only be released from 200 ° C to, forming red-brown fumes. In moist form the compound attacks glass. Gaseous chromyl is reddish brown.
