Chupa Chups

Chupa Chups [ tʃupatʃups ] ( from the Spanish chupar = " lick, suck " ) is a Spanish lollipop manufacturer that was founded in 1958 by Enric Bernat and now part of the Italian - Dutch group Perfetti Van Melle.

The headquarters is located in Cornella de Llobregat in the metropolitan area of ​​Barcelona, ​​in Almeda Park WTC2.

History

In the early 1950s, Bernat worked for an apple jam factory. When he later his backers presented his idea with lollipops, they left him. Bernat took over the company in 1958 and renamed it Chupa Chups. He sold a striped bonbon on a wooden stick for one peseta.

On the idea of a candy bar came with Bernat, when a mother complained because their child from a melting candy got sticky hands and wiped them with his clothes. Bernat found that sweets were not suitable for children developed at this time, although children were the main consumers. He therefore instructed the seller to to to present the new lollipops near the cash within the reach of children's hands, instead of the usual behind the counter.

Chupa Chups was successful fast. Within five years, the lollipops were sold in 300,000 shops. After the end of the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, the company has expanded beyond the borders of Spain. In the 1980s it spread to the European and American, and in the 1990s in the Asian and Australian markets. Chupa Chups 1995 Lollipop was brought to the Mir space station. 2003 sold Chupa Chups with 2000 employees in 150 countries, four billion lollipops and achieved 500 million euro turnover, of which 90 % abroad.

Enric Bernat in 1991 handed over the leadership of his company to his son Javier. The subsidiary Smint was founded in 1994.

Having already since 2005, a strategic alliance with the Italian- Dutch Perfetti Van Melle group, the Catalan family of entrepreneurs Bernat decided in July 2006, a majority stake in Chupa Chups for around 400 million euros at Perfetti Van Melle for sale.

Logo

The Chupa Chups logo was designed by the surrealist Salvador Dalí. The first marketing was the logo with the slogan " És Rodó i dura molt, Chupa Chups ", which translates from Catalan "It is round and long-lasting " is.
