Church Movement

Under Movimenti, German movements, understood as Spiritual Communities within the Roman Catholic Church who maintain a specific piety and intense relationship with God. In some places, the terms interchangeably lay movements are used (as opposed to religious ) or Neukatholische communities.

The Movimenti include in particular:

  • The " Focolare " ( Work of Mary ), founded in 1943 by Chiara Lubich in Trento, recognized in 1962
  • The Fraternity of " Communion and Liberation ", founded in 1954 by Luigi Giussani in Milan, recognized in 1982
  • The " Neocatechumenal Way ", founded in 1964 by Kiko Argüello in Madrid, recognized 1990 ( Regulations 2008)
  • The " Community of Sant'Egidio ", founded in 1968 by Andrea Riccardi in Rome, recognized in 1986

And many smaller communities.

Precursor of the more recent movements include the Schoenstatt Movement, founded in 1914 by Father Joseph Kentenich in Germany and the Legion of Mary, founded in 1921 by Frank Duff in Ireland. Although the Charismatic movement is also into the Catholic Church, however, is canonically hard to define. In ecumenical point movements in the broadest sense, the youth meeting organized by the Taizé Community, to the new clergy are counted.

No " movement", initiated in 1928 and established as a personal prelature in 1982 a special institution of the Catholic Church 's Opus Dei with about 85,000 members (less than 2% of priests ).
