Church of God

In German-speaking countries, there are various free churches with the name Church of God or Church of God, a translation of the English Church of God is usually:

  • Church of God KdöR Germany, Pentecostal
  • Church of God World Mission Society ( WMSCOG )

  • Worldwide Church of God

The term church of God comes from the Bible and refers to the totality of believers in Christ or their assembly on site. The Greek word ekklesia in the New Testament refers to the called-out from the National Assembly and is translated in Catholic translations starting with the Church, Luther and Zwingli with the community and in the King James Bible with assembly or congregation. The English language used indiscriminately Church for church and community.

As a name of a Denomination Church of God ( Church of God and Church of God ) was used in the 19th century in America for various newly established denominations, pioneered by John Winnebrenner for the General Eldership of the Church of God in North America ( later Church of God ( Anderson) ). Since these groups had a wide range of influences and backgrounds, they had to be provided with a supplementary to distinguish them. In parallel, Church of Christ ( Church of Christ ) was often chosen as Denominationsbezeichnung.
