Cirrina

Cirrothauma murrayi

The Cirrentragenden Kraken ( Cirroctopoda ) were detected only in 1989 as a separate order. In older textbooks they are listed in the strict sense, nor among the Kraken ( Octopoda ). Along with these and the vampire squid -like form the group of the eight-armed squid ( Octopodiformes or Vampyropoda ). The monophyly of the group but remains controversial. The characteristics of the Cirrentragenden Octopuses are the fins at the rear end of the body and the trim of the arms with two rows of cirri (a type of movable appendages ) in addition to a series of suction cups on each arm. From housing significant residues in the form of a clasp -like, horny structures are still present. The oldest representatives of the safe Cirroctopoda are known from the Upper Cretaceous.
