As a basis for the introduced in November 1976 LN Peugeot 104 Z. Powered served the LN was initially ³ of a method known from the Dyane air-cooled boxer engine with 602 cm. With the appearance has been criticized that the nearly identical adoption of more conservative Peugeot model, the previously perceived as extravagant image of the brand Citroën - would dilute - which had recently taken previously by Peugeot.

As of November 1978, the name of the car of LN in LNA has changed. In the basic version, he had now enlarged to 652 cc 2- cylinder boxer engine of the visa, in the variants LNA 11 E and 11 RE was a 1124 cc big and 36 kW ( 49 hp) water-cooled 4- cylinder engine as the Peugeot used 104.

Both names were - as then at usual Citroën - onomatopoeic. So LN sounds in French like Hélène and LNA as Hélèna.

In August 1986, the production of the LNA was discontinued. In September 1986, he was replaced by the Citroën AX.
