Citroën Xsara Picasso (1999-2004)

The Citroën Xsara Picasso is a model of the French brand Citroen, which was presented in November 1999. It is based on the Citroën Xsara and was the first compact MPV from Citroen.

General

The Xsara Picasso was named after the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso. The descendants of the painter who let the name of Picasso as a car model name trademark law protect, so Citroën had to purchase a license for this purpose prior to use.

The Picasso was initially only available with three engines: a 1.6 - liter gasoline engine with 70 kW, a 1.8 - liter gasoline engine with 85 kW and the known from the PSA Group's 2.0-liter HDi diesel engine with 66 kW. In early 2003, a 2.0 -liter 16v petrol engine with 100 kW, which was available exclusively in conjunction with an automatic transmission.

In spring 2004, learned the Xsara Picasso small changes in the context of a facelift. He was now available in three equipment levels: Style, Comfort and Tendance. Concurrent with the revision, there was also a 1.6-liter HDi diesel newly developed 80 kW, which was, however, replaced a year later by a 1.6-liter HDi diesel engine with 66 kW and also the old 2, 0 -liter diesel replaced. In addition, a 1.6-liter 16V petrol engine with 80 kW was introduced in mid-2005.

In the category Vans the ADAC breakdown statistics, the Citroën Xsara Picasso in 2004 was on the first place.

Successor to the Xsara Picasso is the Citroën C4 Picasso, which was presented at the 2006 Paris Motor Show in October 2006 and is on the market.

The Xsara Picasso was until January 2010 in Europe alongside his successor as effective entry-level model still offered, but with a limited range of equipment. Thus accounted for in Germany from the end of January 2007, the panoramic glass roof and leather trim for the optional extras.

Citroën is also a sponsor of the exhibition "Picasso and the Theatre " at the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt.
