Civil Movement "People's Self-Defense"

National self-defense ( German for Narodna Samooborona ) was a political movement or party in Ukraine. It was founded in December 2006 by Yuriy Lutsenko.

Lutsenko was first a member of the Socialist Party of Ukraine ( SPU), which in 2004 fought together with the party Our Ukraine and the Yulia Tymoshenko bloc against forgery attempts in the presidential elections in Ukraine. Lutsenko was interior minister in the government of Yulia Tymoshenko after the so-called "Orange Revolution". When his party switched sides and formed a government with the Party of Regions, Viktor Yanukovych, Lutsenko left the SPU and founded the Narodna Samooborona.

In the parliamentary elections of 2007, the National Self-Defense came together with the Our ​​Ukraine party of President Yushchenko and other parties as electoral bloc Our Ukraine - National self-defense. The member parties of this electoral alliance have committed themselves to unite after the election to a party.
