Claire Bretécher

Claire Bretécher ( born April 17, 1940 in Nantes ) is a French illustrator and author.

Life

Bretécher began her career in comics in 1963 with a collaboration with René Goscinny. She worked 1965 - 1966 for the comics magazine Tintin. 1969 cellulite appeared in the French comic magazine Pilote. From the mid- 1970s, the series appeared frustrated in the French weekly magazine Le Nouvel Observateur. The published from 1975 to 1980 albums found its way into the German language area.

In 1982 she won the Grand Prix de la Ville d' Angoulême at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d' Angoulême.

Work

In her work to Bretécher sets with everyday life in the late 20th century and in particular with the requirements provided by the church, society, but also from feminism to modern women apart. This has the problem of the correct anti- authoritarian education up to the problem of acquiring a seamless tan. With her drawing style Bretécher breaks with the traditions of the Franco- Belgian school. The text takes an equal role alongside the image. This clears the way for a new generation of cartoonists. Your minimalist style, but nevertheless excellent works out the emotional life of her characters, can also be found in the work of the German comic artist Ralf König again.
