Claire Voisin

Claire Voisin ( born March 4, 1962 in Saint -Leu- la- Forêt) is a French mathematician who deals with algebraic geometry.

Life and work

Voisin studied from 1981 at the École supérieure de normal jeunes filles in Sèvres and received his doctorate at Arnaud Beauville 1986. It was the age of 24 scientist of the CNRS, where she is today Directrice de Recherche Mathématiques de Jussieu at the Institut de the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie ). She has been a visiting professor at the University La Sapienza in Rome ( 1996).

Voisin dealt with complex algebraic geometry, among other Kähler manifolds, variation of Hodge structures on algebraic varieties and mirror symmetry. Your two-volume textbook on Hodge theory became a standard work. You solved the Kodaira problem ( that is, they gave counterexamples to Kodaira conjecture ) and the conjecture of Mark Green, both long unsolved problems in algebraic geometry.

In 1992 Voisin the EMS price of the European Mathematical Society, 1996 Servant Award of the French Academy of Sciences, 2003, Sophie Germain prize of the French Academy of Sciences, 2007 Ruth Lyttle Satter prize and the 2008 Clay Research Award ( for their solution to the Kodaira problem ). In 1988 she was awarded the bronze medal and 2006 silver medal of the CNRS. In 1994 she was invited speaker at the ICM in Zurich ( Variations of Hodge structure and algebraic cycles ), 2004 held a plenary lecture at the European Congress of Mathematicians ( Recent Progress in Kähler and Complex Algebraic Geometry ), and held 2010 plenary lecture at the ICM in Hyderabad (On the cohomology of algebraic varieties ).

She is since 2008 a member of the Academie des Sciences, and since 2009 the Leopoldina.

Claire Voisin is married to Jean -Michel Coron and has five children.
