Jean-Michel Coron

Jean -Michel Coron ( born August 8, 1956 in Paris ) is a French mathematician who deals with partial differential equations.

Coron made in 1978 graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique ( where he studied since 1975) and 1981 at the Ecole des Mines, where he subsequently conducted research until 1983 at the Centre for Automation and computer science. In 1982 he received his doctorate at Haim Brezis at the University of Paris VI ( Solutions Periodiques non -trivial d une des ondes equation ). From 1983 he was Maitre de Conferences at the Ecole Polytechnique and from 1987 professor at the University of Paris-Sud (since 1990 full professor ). 1992 to 1996 he was seconded to the CNRS at the CMLA, whose director he was in 1995/96. From 2008 he is professor at the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie ) at the Jacques Louis Lions. He is also a member of the Institut Universitaire de France.

Coron deals with nonlinear functional analysis and control theory ( nonlinear ) partial differential equations.

In 1987 he held the Cours Peccot at the College de France, 1995, he was awarded the Prix Jaffé of the French Academy of Sciences and in 1993 he was awarded the Fermat Prize. 2000 he received the Prize of the Catalan Belgian Academy of Sciences and in 2002 the Dargelos price of the Ecole Polytechnique. In 2010 he gave a plenary lecture at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM ) in Hyderabad ( On the controllability of nonlinear differential equations ) and in 1990 he was invited speaker on the ICM in Kyoto (Harmonic maps with values into spheres ).

He is married to Claire Voisin, with whom he had five children.

His doctoral include Frédéric Hélein and Fabrice Bethuel.
