The Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague is the former baroque city seat of the von Clam- Gallas.

History

The viceroy of Naples Johann Wenzel von Gallas 1707 entrusted the architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach with the plans for his Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague's Old Town. The magnificent Baroque building was designed by Giovanni Domenico Canevalle, the stone carvings led the royal court - Stonemasons Giovanni Pietro della Torre from ( end of construction 1713).

After his death was Philipp Josef von Gallas Palais accomplish by Thomas Haffenecker and commissioned the painter Carlo Carloni with the execution of the wall and ceiling paintings. When the family could not provide the funds for the maintenance of the house was a rental to offices. After 1918 the house was used for wedding celebrations. The palace was confiscated in 1945 and served after the fire in the Old Town Hall as temporary quarters for the Prague City Archives. Today it is owned by the city and is used for concerts, exhibitions and festival events.
