Clarina (moth)

Clarina is a genus of butterflies of the family of moth ( Sphingidae ) within the subfamily Macro Glos Sinae. It includes two types depending on unrepresented view or a species with two subspecies that are almost indistinguishable from the genus Ampelophaga however. It is therefore very likely that the species has developed through isolation of a population of Ampelophaga rubiginosa, a popular in India and the eastern part of the Palearctic species. There is also a similarity to the Nearctic genus Darapsa.

Features

The moths have a slightly serrated forewing outer margin. The compound eyes have eyelashes on the upper edge shaped scales. The head shows a distinct dorsal hair. On the legs of the long spur at the apex of the middle and rear rails ( tibia ) is less than half as long as the first Tarsenglied, which is shorter than the rail itself on the tarsi of the middle legs no crest is formed. The pulvilli are small and the paronychium has only one lobe on each side. The wing veins Rs and M1 are the rear wing on a short stalk, M2 is before the cell, the lower angle is acute. D4 is only half as long as D3.

The genitalia of the males are almost identical to those of Ampelophaga rubiginosa. However, the processes of the aedeagus are thinner and not serrated. In addition, the Valven are dipper -shaped. The saccule is spatulate and expanded. He is serrated on the top part. In females, the Lamella postvaginalis tapers abruptly, as in the genus Daphnis. The ostium bursae is great, is free and has slightly raised edges.

The oval eggs are flattened dorsoventrally. They have a pale greenish- yellow color. The caterpillars have the typical physique enthusiast, in which the front segment may be withdrawn in the third segment of the thorax and the first abdominal segment. The caterpillars carried on back on each of the segments a wrong V-shaped drawing and have a pale longitudinal line on either side of the back, which does not include eye patch. The caterpillars look very similar to those of the genera Ampelophaga and Darapsa. The doll has an adherent to the body proboscis. She wears brown, dotted lines on the wings, legs and antennae. The spiracles are surrounded dark. The cremaster is short and pointed, similar to the genus Daphnis.

Occurrence and life

The genus is in the south and east of Turkey, in Iran, and in the Levant region. The caterpillars feed on grapevines family ( Vitaceae ).

System

Worldwide, according to Kitching & Cadiou (2000 ), two species of the genus known. Pittaway, however, assumes that they are subspecies of Clarina kotschyi in the two taxa.

A synonym of the genus is Berutana Rothschild & Jordan, 1903.
