Claude Deppa

Claude depa ( born May 10, 1958 in Cape Town ) is a South African trumpeter of Modern Creative Jazz.

Life and work

Depa, first learned drums and trumpet at school, living in the UK since he was 17. He has worked with the groups of Harry Beckett, Andy Sheppard and Brian Abrahams District Six, but also with Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, with Carla Bley, with Winston Mankunku, the Dedication Orchestra of Louis Moholo and the Grand Union Orchestra. He was also with his own and other projects, including Havana Greets Ronnie Scott or the African Jazz Explosion traveling the world and has also worked as a sideman for Miriam Makeba, Manu Dibango and Tony Allen. In addition, he also plays with various bands ranging in styles from swing and calypso to Juju.
