Claudio Passarelli
Claudio Passarelli ( born January 18, 1965 in Ludwigshafen, Germany) is a former German wrestler and world champion of 1989.
Career
Claudio Passarelli is the son of Italian immigrants from Gambatesa in southern Italy and the youngest of three brothers, all of whom were German wrestling champion and one of them, Pasquale, even Olympic champion in 1984 in Los Angeles was. The three brothers got the rings at coach Walter Gehring at KSG Ludwigshafen. Later, Claudio Passarelli joined the VfK Schiffer city.
Passarelli already developed at a young age to an outstanding wrestler in the Greco-Roman style, which, as a 19 -year-old, won his first German championship in the seniors at lightweight in 1984. As the judges realized his mistake on an appeal of the West German national team coach Heinz Ostermann and Passarelli weighed, it suddenly was overweight because he had now taken up liquid.
At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Passarelli disappointed when he lost against Nandor Sabo from Yugoslavia and Kim Sung -Moon from Korea after two wins and could not place it in the front of the field. In 1989, succeeded Passarelli the really big success. He was in Martigny / Switzerland, world champion in the lightweight. In the pool finals he defeated while Olympic champion Levon Dschulfalakjan and in the final Ghani Yalouz, a naturalized North Africans in France.
1990 Passarelli suffered a broken leg who claimed a longer break. Only in 1992 he attempted a comeback. But he could not build on the very good performances of the years 1986 to 1989 there. After all, he reached at the European Championships 1992 in Copenhagen the 6th Place and arrived at the Olympic Games in Barcelona on the 10th Place.
